The Ceiling

She said to me, “Sometimes, when not a lot is going, on I just like to look up at the ceiling and find pictures in the wood.”  Our family room has a wood plank ceiling, and there are dark brown knots in the pine.

Actually, I often do the same thing when I need to really relax.  I lie on my back and spend some time just looking at the ceiling, with no agenda, and low and behold, pictures start popping up in the wood, and sometimes they make a story.

I’ve actually always loved how the human mind can take something very abstract — a piece of art, or a photograph that is undefined, or the knots in the wood on a ceiling, and work to form pictures out of the shapes that are there.  Some of my favorite abstract paintings in my house have some very distinct unintentional pictures in them, and I love having those secret images on my walls.

I’m thankful and happy that The Banana relaxes with hidden pictures too.
